Quilting Along!

Hello!

It's a fine Sunday morning--I'm out on my deck, feeling the breeze between my toes, and it's wonderful! This week has seen me in my sewing room more often (yay!), so I actually have some sewing progress to share (double yay!). I'm catching up on a couple quilt-alongs and getting ready to start another--but I won't get behind on that one, honest!

First up, my first three blocks for an informal quilt-along I'm doing with my mother-in-law (as always, click for bigger pics):

Quilt of Valor blocks: All together

We're using the Moose on the Porch Jelly Roll QAL instructions, and I'm not really making the blocks in order, I'm more picking whichever strikes my fancy at a given sewing session.

I'm intending this quilt to be a Quilt of Valor, so I thought it was fitting that I made the first block on Memorial Day:

Block 2 came a couple days later, and I really like how my corners turned out with this one:

And Block 3 came together quick, and I used most of the brown fabric that came in the jelly roll. I like this block so much I am thinking I may make another one with turquoise and red. :)

We finally got the closet in the sewing/guest room equipped with shelving, and I really like having all that space to store stuff! I especially like being able to see all my jelly roll strips while I work on this quilt. (And if you look closely, you can spot the stack of strips that will be part of the Origins queen-sized quilt for our bed. I'm doing a leader/ender type thing with those strips while piecing my sampler blocks, so hopefully I will get that quilt done in good time, too!)

My closet

Next up: I am slowly inching along on the Layer Cake Quilt-a-Long--I'm way, WAY behind (as the whole thing wrapped up a while ago) but eventually I'll get it done. I'm using a Dream On layer cake, and I rather like how this yellow starry snowball turned out:

Layer Cake QAL: Block 4

And last but certainly not least, my handwork project is coming together! On the long Memorial Day weekend, we went to see my in-laws and I took advantage of the free babysitting to work on this. I now have all but two of the blocks sewn into their rows, and I cannot wait to see this with the borders, which will add the one thing this top is currently missing: a bolt of blue.

Spring!

So, one would think I have enough to keep busy, right?

...Except there's this fabric line that I've been coveting (Fresh Flowers by Deb Strain) and I've been dying to make something with it (I need the excuse to buy the fabric, heh), and lo, it is summertime, so: I'm diving into another quilt along! This one looks fun! Fabric requirements are up, and the cutting instructions will come on June 23--plenty of time for you to dive in! Wanna join me?

  1. I'm loving your Bliss blocks! I have a Bliss jelly roll that is calling my name, but I'm determined to finish some of my WIPS before I start another! I'm doing the Kaleidoscope QAL too. Can't wait to sew along with you!

  6. I just love the QAL you're doing with your mother in law! And it must be nice, indeed, to have all your strips hanging in sight like that. :)
